Boosting Silk Production and Rural Development
Established in 2001, the Directorate of Sericulture in Uttarakhand aims to promote the silk industry and improve the socio-economic conditions of rural communities. By focusing on sericulture, the government sought to tap into the region’s rich tradition of silk production, creating employment opportunities and enhancing rural livelihoods.
The Directorate, under the Ministry of Horticulture, provides crucial infrastructure and support for silkworm rearing, mulberry cultivation, and silk processing. Through modern techniques and training programs, it helps farmers increase productivity, improve income, and ensure sustainable growth in the industry.
By combining traditional practices with innovation, the Directorate is not only preserving the cultural heritage of silk production but also contributing to the state’s economic development and rural upliftment.
